Southern nights
are under the same sky
that covers us all.
Stars seen by all eyes.
How uncommon
that we’d have in common
things that bind
not spoken of so often.
You don’t know
how my trenches run deep.
Or no matter what
how your words I will keep.
Did you not know
feelings show
a soul on fire enough
melting snow.
Did you not know
all these words I write
seep through me
and soar as if a kite.
Through beams of light
in these southern nights
I send my heart in flight
for you my friend’s sight.
I will explore all notions
as if a sleuth in motion.
Inquisitive thoughts,
an intoxicating potion.
I will take this warmth
this night I swear
cover cold hands for you
my friends so near.
