Awake In The Flames

What is this flame,
that consumes me,
from inside a pulse
barely alive you see?

I am the same as I
was and still am now.
But I thought embers
within were doused.

I see the faces of my
infatuations lay bare.
I see their silhouettes,
my heart wasn’t there.

Deepening a quandry
I ask myself the heat,
why does it rise to my
eyes and ears from feet?

Burn me alive world,
envelop in slick flame.
For now I know I am
alive but not the same.

That last stanza says it all. Well done, Jared.
